Pre-notifying transit documents from the UK in Notification Import Documentation

Situation: you have created a transit document from the United Kingdom (or from Ireland) that will accompany the goods to their final destination in the European Union (a so-called through transit document; T1/T2).

The advance notification of Transit Declarations in Notification Import Documentation (NID) works as follows:

  • You do not need to pre-notify through transit documents via the NID service.
  • However, you must indicate in your booking with your carrier or ferry operator that you wish to ship goods with a through transit document. You do this by providing the MRN number of your Transit Declaration when making your booking.
  • The carrier will notify Customs of your transit document upon arrival in the Netherlands and will submit a document pre-notification to the terminal on your behalf.

A transit document from the UK can be recognised by the first 5 characters: 21GB00. A number starting with "21GB01X" is not a transit document, but an export document from the UK.
