Always full cargo information and status visibility!

2 April 2025 | Cargo Controller

Much has already been written about the consequences and impact of the Secure Chain within Portbase’s services. For Cargo Controller, new features as well as new processes have been introduced. This release is all about ease of use and certainty: you get full insight into your cargo, exactly as you expect because you had chosen Cargo Controller

In control of your cargo

As a Cargo Controller user, you know that automatic notifications of important status updates of your cargo make logging in, calling and e-mailing unnecessary. You set your e-mail notifications, link your B/L and you can direct based on the developments of your cargo.

Cargo Controller provides all this information at a transaction price per B/L and a monthly subscription fee. Clear and familiar with maximum insight, the added value why your organisation chose Cargo Controller.

Incomplete cargo tracking

With the introduction of the Secure Chain, we introduced Basic and Extended Tracking. Within the Secure chain, you can be assigned to a B/L that you do not yet track yourself(. As a result, you are assigned ‘Basic Tracking’: the minimum information required for the Secure Chain. This means that you do not have full insight into your cargo and are no longer actively informed of its status.

With every ‘Basic B/L’, you already have the choice to access the full B/L information. See the image below how this looks with the choice option.

Customer inquiries and direct feedback from our in-service research showed that this process was often unclear and frequently undesirable within organisations due to additional manual actions. Based on further customer research, we have developed a solution to address these concerns.

Standard: Full cargo tracking

From 1 June 2025, a standard option will be available—and active—ensuring that all B/Ls linked to your organisation are automatically fully connected. This means you will be charged for full B/L information while also benefiting from:

  • Full operational visibility as you are used to
  • Immediate notifications for all your cargo
  • No extra manual actions required

With Cargo Controller, you consciously choose the added value of full visibility, which we provide per paid transaction per B/L. The decision to keep this option active and in use is entirely up to your organisation. If you prefer to decide per B/L whether to access the full information, that remains an option.

Later this month, we will share more details and instructions on how to adjust this setting in your organisation’s preferences at any time.

With this update, you always have the full visibility you rely on with Cargo Controller.

Are you using our Cargo Controller API?

In that case, you will automatically receive all data for your processing. You may have developed a process to identify unexpected B/Ls via the Secure Chain and subsequently trigger a ‘track request’ process to obtain the full information. After 1 May, this process will no longer be necessary if your organisation keeps this update active. Even if the process remains in place, everything will continue to function after 1 May, but the automatic ‘track request’ process will become redundant.
