The service Road Back-Up provides a backup service for road transport in case the regular service Hinterland Container Notification (HCN) Road is unavailable due to a malfunction. See here which terminals are connected to Road Back-Up.

In this Quick Start Guide, we explain how to use Road Back-Up in a few short steps. Go to Road Back-Up and enter your login details to get started.

1Submitting a pre-notification

Submitting a pre-notification

You can create your pre-notification right away:

  • Complete the requested data fields.
  •  Submit the pre-notification to the terminal by clicking ‘Submit”

Please note that Road Back-Up does not support status requests. This means that only final pre-notifications can be submitted.

2Response on submitted pre-notification

Response on submitted pre-notification

You should receive the response from the terminal by e-mail within a few minutes’ time. That e-mail will contain the following information:

  • Acknowledgement of receipt of the prenotification – “The prenotification was accepted for container…”
  • Status information on container TAR code – “We received the following status code(s)”
  • Possible error message about the container TAR code – “>>> The container will NOT be loaded/discharged <<<“
  • Confirmation of the details of the prenotification – “The details of the prenotification are”
  • Assigned time slot (“Time Slot Arrival” and “Time Slot Departure”), if applicable. Please note: the assigned time slot may differ from the time slot requested!

Please note: If you get the following error message, the container cannot be picked up:

“>>> The container will NOT be loaded/discharged <<<”

You must then create a new prenotification and correct the error. Old prenotifications submitted via Road Back-Up cannot be changed. The container cannot be picked up until the prenotification is confirmed without an error message.

3Differences with regular service MCA Road

Differences with regular service MCA Road

  • Not all terminals are connected to Road Back-Up. Click here for a list.
  • Only TAR codes can be obtained via Road Back-Up. RCI codes are not supported.
  • It is not possible to link multiple containers to the same TAR code.
  • Within the regular service HCN Road, the status of the container TAR code is constantly updated. Road Back-Up communicates this status once in the feedback to your prenotification.
  • Road Back-Up is not linked to HCN Road. As a result, you cannot view status requests and prenotifications submitted via the regular service HCN Road in Road Back-Up. This also means that prenotifications submitted via Road Back-Up are not visible in the regular service HCN Road.
