Transition date October 1st approaches for sharing Train Composition via HCN Rail

27 August 2024 | Hinterland Container Notification Rail

Please note that this release note is addressed to the rail operators.

In May this year, we informed you about the transition date of 1 October 2024 for sharing the train composition via HCN Rail to the terminals connected to the service. This transition date was set at the Rail Connected Steering Committee early this year.

Where are we now?

The market is moving, and we have received valuable feedback from stakeholders. To best support you, several online Q&A sessions were held in August in which we answered questions from rail operators and their software suppliers. In addition, a webinar with a demo was organised for web screen users, and an online manual was made available.

Additional dangerous goods fields

During Rail Connected’s Task Force and Steering Committee in June this year, we let it be known that we had received signals about the need for additional dangerous goods information in the train composition. Research among the traction suppliers revealed a need for adding three additional dangerous goods fields in the train composition. We confirm that these dangerous goods fields will be added. They are the following fields:

  1. handlingData.dangerousGoods.limitedQuantity
  2.  handlingData.dangerousGoods.packingGroup
  3. handlingData.dangerousGoods.description

The new fields will be added to the API specifications where the current dangerous-goods fields are listed. This concerns the Create (detached) handling, Update (detached) handling, and Move any handling endpoints in the Operator API – handlings. Your software supplier can consult the API specifications for this.
